Job Description
Constance Ephelia, a luxurious resort in the Seychelles, is seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Head Sommelier to join our esteemed food and beverage team. In this role, you will work closely with the Head Sommelier to ensure an exceptional wine experience for our discerning guests.
- Assist in managing the resort's extensive wine programme, including inventory control and cellar management
- Collaborate with the Head Sommelier to curate and update wine lists for multiple restaurants within the resort
- Provide expert wine recommendations and food pairing suggestions to guests
- Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for both guests and staff
- Train and mentor junior sommeliers and wine service staff
- Assist in maintaining relationships with wine suppliers and negotiating purchases
- Ensure proper storage and handling of all wines to maintain quality
- Participate in budget planning and cost control measures for the wine programme
- Stay informed about current wine trends and emerging wine regions
- Assist in organising wine-focused events and promotions
Qualifications
- Advanced certification from a recognised wine education body (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers)
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a sommelier in a luxury hotel or fine dining restaurant
- Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and wine-making processes
- Excellent palate and tasting abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven experience in staff training and mentoring
- Proficiency in inventory management and wine list curation
- Expertise in food and wine pairing
- Understanding of spirits, cocktails, and other beverages
- Familiarity with international wine markets and trends
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional and approachable demeanour
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and POS systems
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or related field (preferred)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous
