About
It is my desire to pursue a career in outdoor education. Whilst at art college and later university, I became accustomed to academic life and how enjoyable and rewarding learning is. During my earlier working life, I had moved to Wales to teach outdoor pursuits at Mountain Ventures (now Boulder Adventures). Working with pre-school, primary and secondary children and adult groups. Some of these groups had learning and attention issues, some were defined with autism. This made the role challenging. However, it was certainly rewarding, teaching pupils to check and wear the safety clothing, using a buddy, buddy system. The pupils would learn the importance of working together in groups, to design and build a raft, kayak or indeed abseil down a cliff face, getting them to work cohesively together, this help develop their future working skills. What I relished about the teaching is how diverse the groups would be and the interaction between myself and the children and adults and how engaging they would be. Their enthusiasm for the tasks set was remarkably outstanding, and it was a great platform upon which to build a teaching career. Whilst studying for my BA and later my Masters, the Universities offered their support and guidance. Which, gave me confidence in my own abilities and the desire to succeed. Having gained working and academic life experience, I now want to share my knowledge and experiences with the young people of today and help them prepare the way for their future career path. In addition to this, through my own education and life experiences, having learned to accept guidance and critique of my own work, I am aware of what a difficult but necessary skill this is for continual personal development, but also how important this skill is in life.
