Do you want to spend the winters in the mountains helping to tutor some of Britain’s up and coming winter sports athletes?

We are currently recruiting for Maths, English and Science Tutors to join the educational staff at Team Evolution.

The Team Evolution programme operates from the Team Evolution academy in Austria, and is designed for student-athletes who are balancing their athletic training with their academic requirements. The winter programme runs from mid November - mid April, and includes an educational support programme, delivered by our tutoring staff.

The majority of our athletes compete internationally, representing the British Ski Team at a variety of events across Europe and beyond. The programme delivers training for a wide range of different aged athletes, from the youngest trainees at 10 years old, through to our full time athletes who may be studying Open University courses.

In a training environment focused on hard work and commitment, which encourages trainees to learn life lessons by risking failure and learning from their successes, the programmes provided by Team Evolution are student-athlete centered at all times. This includes delivering an educational support programme to the trainees which allows them to stay on top of their UK-set schooling, whilst spending significant amounts of time based in a mountain training environment, often skiing in the mornings, and attending school in the afternoons.

The academy training base in Radstadt, Austria provides a "home away from home", where the student-athletes and staff live for the season. The staffing team is made up of knowledgable and committed pastoral staff, tutors and coaches who are passionate about their roles in developing athletes and the programme, and obviously love the mountains. The Team Evolution tutors are expected to make use of their surroundings to engage the student athletes in the local language and cultures as a part of the learning process.

Main Objectives:

To provide a safe and secure learning environment for all student-athletes.

To deliver high quality educational support to student-athletes, in both a specific subject area & associated support subjects, for a minimum of 5 days per week during pre-arranged training blocks from mid November until the end of April, as well as during specific stand-alone camps in September 2024, October 2024 and May 2025 (if available, and with additional pay offered). Days and times of schooling may vary due to competition schedules, and additional tuition may be required at weekends/evenings to support student learning.

To liaise with the Schools Liaison, the Head Tutor and other tutoring staff to plan lessons, workloads and to manage student-athletes through the online Educational Planner in GoogleDrives.

To liaise with the Team Evolution Programme Director and the parents of student-athlete on and specific educational needs.

To plan additional educational activities to help with the individual educational and personal development of each athlete, both in and out of the classroom. Encouraging student-athletes to engage with the local language and culture through extra curricular activities is a key objective of the tutoring team, and a crucial part of the job role outside of the minimum three hours per day of in school tutoring.

To provide private support and tutoring for athletes where required, with discussion and guidance from the Schools Liaison and Programme Director. This may also include the requirement to attend race trips away from base, to continue to offer educational support to student-athletes whilst on the road at competition.

Additional aspects of the job:

To ensure all student-athletes are well organised for each school day

Being present during ‘down time’ after meals and free time for student-athletes to be able to talk about educational needs or extra support required.

On occasion, to supervise athletes as part of external activities outside of regular teaching times, sometimes at short notice. This may include helping at race trips away from the training base or accompanying athletes on flights.

Support other staff at the Evolution base in order to create the best possible working environment. To assist with the day to day running of the Educational Programme and the academy facilities, where requested, including certain responsibilities around the training base.

All members of Team Evolution staff will be required to assist with driving, including airport pick-ups, during the season. Applicants should have a full, clean driving license.

Remuneration:

Wages are based on Teaching & Tutoring experience, and range from £300 - £350 per week, or £400 for the Head Tutor role.

Staff expenses are covered for the duration of the season, from mid-November until mid-April. This includes;

Half Board shared accommodation, eating at the Team Evolution Academy

Driven transport out to base in mid-November, and returning at the end of the season in mid-April

Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience as a teacher or tutor in Maths or English or Science, or a degree in the chosen subject is a minimum requirement.

A teaching qualification is desirable, but not essential, if the candidate is deemed to be a good fit within the team environment. NQTs welcome to apply - N.B. this will not count towards your NQT year.

Experience in A-Level tutoring and or teaching

Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel and Google Drives

The requirement to complete an enhanced DBS check

A completed Child Welfare / Safeguarding Course

Valid First Aid training

A clean driving license

Good communication skills and a strong team work ethic are essential.
