ADO River Valley Outdoor Educator
This role will suit an experienced outdoor teacher/educator with degree level education with teaching/instructing experience.

About Us
ADO River Valley is a small Independent Special School part of ADO C.I.C. which is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company providing outdoor education through our full-time school and therapeutic opportunities with children, young people and adults with animals, wildlife and nature in Welling, Kent. Our school specialises in supporting young people aged 14-19 yrs with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues, associated Neurodiversity and or Learning difficulties. We require specialist educators who have a passion in supporting pupils who have difficulty managing social interactions and their mental health to learn in a unique and therapeutic setting. We are looking for individuals who could help the children recognise and regulate their emotions to promote positive mental health and wellbeing through enriching outdoor education lessons.
Reporting to the Headteacher, we are looking for an outdoor educator who will be flexible to learn to plan and deliver lesson on a variety of vocational subjects including but not limited to Adventure sport including Tree Climbing, Low Ropes, Archery, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Non-Contact Boxing, trip leader for watersport trips offsite (including risk assessment and planning).
The adventure sport is linked to AQA units on our curriculum and there could be other BTEC options for young people with capacity.
This role also leads pupil responsibility with young people i.e. site improvements and supporting land projects for learning areas and this would be working towards land based introductory level 1 BTEC for some of the learners.
The post holder would one at least one activity club session a week during school hours.
The full-time role includes provision of groups, holiday schemes for mainstream children and young people with SEND and or supporting site projects for teaching areas and developing our outdoor education offer.
We are looking for an enthusiastic outdoor instructor who is experienced in delivering high quality outdoor learning experiences to join our growing team and work with us to deliver part of the school’s outdoor education activities and curriculum we provide. You will be a skilled facilitator, able to adapt your style to work with a variety of different clients with varying needs. You will have knowledge in how outdoor learning can benefit all aspects of education and personal development. We are looking for individuals who have previous centre or school teaching experience and hold outdoor education qualifications and are willing to train in Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (unless appropriate level 5 or above teaching qualification already held).
We are looking for people who hold at least one of the following awards:
· SPA/CWA/ERCA Low Ropes course instructor and or suitable climbing qualifications to deliver Low Ropes and Tree Climbing
Other desirable qualifications would include:
· Teaching qualification level 5 or above.
· Cycling Instruction
· Archery GB Instructor Award
· Bushcraft Practitioner/Competency Certificate/Qualifications
· Non-contact Boxing
This outdoor educator role will be responsible for Health and Safety equipment checks and maintenance, lesson planning, assessing student progression using our education Arbor system and monitoring the service to assure consistent quality standards and enhance service users’ experiences.
During holiday periods for full time post, the post holder will supervise and deliver enriching outdoor experiences for children and young people in attendance and or support site development for learning and maintenance.
You will need to be a self-starter, with excellent personal/time management skills and a commitment to excellent customer/delivery standards. You will also need to be a positive role model and ambassador for ADO River Valley, ADO C.I.C.
Reliable IT and data management skills essential (Microsoft Office, Outlook etc.), along with strong written/spoken English and numerical skills.
Person Specification
Essential - The applicant must hold a degree (appropriate degree relevant to outdoor education/environment/sport is desirable) with the ability and 2 years’ experience minimum in adapting, planning and delivering curriculum activities.
Essential - The applicant will need to be willing to be trained to work alongside and handle a variety of animals which are a key part of our specialist education provision for staff cover and supporting lessons/therapeutic sessions where applicable. Full Training will be provided as required.
Essential - The applicant must be physically fit, willing and able to work outdoors in all weathers with the appropriate clothing and footwear.
Desirable – Hold QTS or NCFE/DTLLS Teaching Awards/Diploma
Desirable - Current First Aid qualification
