We have a fantastic opportunity at the Sindalah Sailing School:
As an IGY Boat Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for the upkeep and repair of the sailing school's fleet, including sailing school boats and yachts. You will ensure that all boats are maintained to the highest standards, guaranteeing safety and performance. Your proactive, 'can-do' attitude will be essential in maintaining the luxury experience of Sindalah Island. You will closely coordinate and foster relationships with the shipyard company, MB92, to utilize their travel hoist and boat yard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
· Perform regular inspections and maintenance of the sailing school boats and yachts.
· Conduct hull inspections and cleanings to prevent algae and barnacle buildup.
· Inspect and maintain rigging, sails, shrouds, stays, and other sailing hardware.
· Service inboard and outboard engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and cooling system checks.
· Maintain electrical systems, including batteries, wiring, and navigation lights.
· Inspect and maintain safety equipment, such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, flares, and bilge pumps.
· Perform maintenance on the interior and deck of sailing boats, ensuring all hardware is secure and functional.
· Ensure the trailer for sailing boats is in good condition, including wheel bearings, tires, and lights.
· Inspect and clean the hull and propeller of safety boats, ensuring there is no damage or debris.
· Maintain the fuel system of safety boats, including checking fuel lines, tanks, and filters.
· Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
· Source and manage 3rd party contractors and suppliers.
· Order and manage inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
· Assist the marina team with various tasks when there are no specific maintenance activities.
· Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety standards and regulations.
· Respond promptly to emergency repair requests.
· Coordinate and foster relationships with the shipyard company, MB92, to utilize their travel hoist and boat yard.
· Manage inventory of sailing equipment and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
· Foster positive relationships with suppliers and 3rd parties.
· Promote the luxury experience of Sindalah Island through professional and enthusiastic interactions with guests.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 4 years of experience as a boat maintenance technician working for a reputable company within the yachting industry.
· Strong mechanical and technical skills.
· Good knowledge of sailing boat systems, including rigging, sails, and engines.
· Working with GRP and ability to repair boats to a high standard.
· Strong organizational skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
· Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues efficiently.
· Power boat qualification (RYA, ASA, AS, or other equivalents) – preferred
· VHF Operator’s certificate (preferred, but not essential)
· Valid Driver’s License
· A 'can-do' attitude.
· Proactive and able to work independently.
