General Assistant for Sea Lion Lodge

Hours of work: Variable (Full time, to be arranged)

Other: Accommodation and meals will be provided. Travel to and from the Falkland Islands will be provided.
This is an exciting and a rare opportunity to work and live on Sea Lion Island, a remote island in the Falkland Islands that offers wildlife and nature tourism stays.
Sea Lion Island is the most southerly inhabited island in the Falkland Islands’ archipelago. It is a National Nature Reserve with a spectacular abundance and diversity of wildlife, from southern elephant seals to gentoo penguins.
Wild Falklands Ltd operates the only Lodge on the island, Sea Lion Lodge. The Lodge accommodates guests through the austral summer season, mainly attracting international groups that specialise in wildlife photography.
The Role: General Assistant / Tour Guide
You will join a small team to assist in the day to day running of the Sea Lion Lodge. The job would suit someone that enjoys interacting with people in a busy, guest-facing environment, enjoys nature and wildlife, whilst also being able to carry out practical tasks and being self-reliant.
The general duties will involve assisting with passenger connections on and off small aircraft (10 seaters) as well as welcoming guests to the Lodge and delivering wildlife tours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with all passenger connections from small islander aircraft including luggage transfers.
- Welcoming guests and briefing them on the wildlife and the Island/ Lodge’s guidelines.
- Providing guests with a friendly presence at the Lodge, assisting with their general inquiries.
- Providing guided wildlife tours around the island by 4x4 vehicle for guests.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Keeping vehicles clean and tidy.
- Maintaining the outside areas: garden, mowing, cleaning outside windows.
- Assisting with office work where needed (bookings, ordering, taking telephone calls).
- Assisting with water pumping, fuel and cargo unloading from supply boats, and any other maintenance jobs where necessary.
- Consolidating and managing disposal of rubbish.
Required Experience & Skills
- English must be your first language (or very high level).
- Friendly and communicable with guests.
- Interest in wildlife and nature.
- Able to work in a small team, but also self-motivated, self-reliant and able to solve problems.
- Good work ethic and willing to get involved and enjoy island life.
- Full valid driving licence.
- Responsible and conscientious approach to health and safety.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Previous / current training in outdoor first aid.
Working in a Remote Environment
Sea Lion Island is a remote island with a team of 7 staff working at the Lodge and up to 20 guests on a daily basis. The job involves working and living on Sea Lion Island inclusively for 5-6 months (Oct- Mar) and working every day. Ideally this job is suited to someone that has experience of working or living in remote environments.

You will be required to provide referee details and a selection of ID documents such as a Passport or Full Birth Certificate as well as your Driving Licence.
